⁣Like everyone else, I’ve been thinking a lot about race in America. And I’ve been reflecting a lot about what I’ve taught my children, what they’ve taught me, and how we can all do better. As a mom and a teacher of young children, I used literacy as one of my most important tools for teaching big concepts. And the book Elmer, by David McKee, was one of my favorites. It’s about an elephant who’s not grey like his neighbors, but instead is a brightly colored patchwork. The story has a lot of important lessons about embracing difference, getting to know your neighbors, and admitting when you’re wrong. So here’s my Elmer...in all of his beautiful colors.
